At 5:45 AM, I stood in the kitchen, bleary-eyed and barely awake. My toddler had wet the bed, the baby was crying, my lab coat was still in the laundry, and my heart was pounding. I hadn’t even had my coffee again. I remember whispering, “God, there must be more to life than this chaos.”
That was the turning point in my life. Not because the morning was particularly worse than others, but because I was done pretending I had it all together. Something had to change. And that change began not with a new planner or productivity hack, but with surrendering to something deeper: my faith.
As a healthcare worker and mother of three, I believed I should be able to manage the pressure. After all, I’m trained in precision and control. At work, I follow strict protocols. At home? It was unpredictable, noisy, and exhausting.
I was tired of measuring myself by how much I got done rather than who I was becoming in Christ.
One morning, in desperation, I opened my Bible instead of my phone. The verse that hit me was:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Those words didn’t fix my life. But they opened a door.
That week, I committed to spending just 10 minutes with God each morning. It felt small, almost silly—but it shifted everything.
Through prayer and trial, I slowly rebuilt my days using a blend of spiritual habits and scientific structure. Here’s what helped me move from chaos to calm:
1. Sacred Mornings (God First, Not Phone First)
I began each day with scripture, prayer, and stillness—even if it was just 10 minutes. Over time, this reoriented my soul before the noise of the world kicked in.
Try this: Read Psalm 23 slowly. One verse per breath. Then sit quietly. No agenda. Just listen.
2. Evening Reset (Prepare the Night Before)
No more scrambling in the morning. I started laying out clothes, prepping lunchboxes, and writing a quick to-do list for the next day. It gave me peace knowing I had a head start.
Try this: Create a 15-minute family “wind-down” ritual each night.
3. Digital Boundaries (Protect Your Peace)
I used to scroll until midnight. Now, I set a 9:30 PM phone curfew. I deleted apps that drained me and curated my feed to include uplifting, faith-centered content.
Try this: Install a screen time tracker and fast from social media one day a week.
4. Faith-Based Affirmation Journaling
I started writing one Bible verse and one affirmation each morning:
“I am not overwhelmed—I am held by God.”
It reframed my thoughts and rooted me in truth.
Try this: Keep a simple notebook by your Bible. One verse, one sentence of hope, every morning.
5. Sunday Family Planning (Sanctified Schedules)
Each Sunday, I prayerfully reviewed my week ahead with my husband. We discussed kids’ needs, meals, work tasks, and spiritual goals. It became our anchor.
Try this: Start your week with a prayer over your calendar.
As a lab scientist, I appreciate precision. But motherhood taught me that life isn’t always linear. I learned to merge structure with grace.
God didn’t remove my responsibilities—He restructured my heart.
You are not lazy.
You are not scattered.
You are overloaded.
You don’t need to do more—you need to abide more.
God meets you in the laundry room. He walks with you in the hospital corridors. He listens when you whisper, “I can’t do this alone.”
And the truth is, you’re not doing it alone.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
